Everything you need to know to understand, prepare for and pass the official Luxembourgish language exam.
What is the Sproochentest?
The Sproochentest is the official Luxembourgish language exam organised by the State through the INLL. It is mandatory to obtain Luxembourgish citizenship.
Structure of the Sproochentest
The test consists of 2 compulsory sections:
- Conversation with the examiner on an everyday topic (work, family, hobbies) — you choose from 2 themes
- Picture description — you choose 1 image from 3
- Goal: speak simply, be understood, interact
- 3 audio recordings: conversation, announcement, presentation
- Answers in multiple-choice format
- Goal: grasp the main ideas and follow a conversation

- Plan 1 Annual access – €980 incl. VAT: one-time payment, 12 months of unlimited access, no automatic renewal. That’s €81.67/month – you save €172.
- Plan 2 Monthly access – €96/month incl. VAT: 12-month minimum commitment, automatically renewed, cancellable from the 13th month onwards.
- Online registration via the MyINL portal at www.inll.lu
- Registration fee: €75 (set by Grand-Ducal regulation)
- Deadline: registration must be completed at least one month before the exam date

1. Reimbursement of Luxembourgish language course fees – up to €750
If you are in the process of acquiring Luxembourgish nationality, the Ministry of Justice reimburses up to €750 for Luxembourgish language courses taken with a provider approved by the Ministry of Education.

The €75 registration fee for the official exam (paid to the INLL) is also reimbursable by the State, subject to passing the exam and within a nationality procedure.
3. Co-financing through your employer (INFPC)
If you are an employee, your employer can apply for co-financing from INFPC. The State covers part of the training costs (15% as standard, up to 35% depending on your profile). More info: www.lifelong-learning.lu These subsidies are granted by Luxembourg public bodies (Ministry of Justice, INFPC), not by ETIC. Contact these organisations directly to find out about your rights and eligibility conditions.
- Oral expression A2 approximately 10 minutes – you choose between two everyday topics (family, work, hobbies…) and discuss it with the examiner.
- Listening comprehension B1 approximately 25 minutes – multiple-choice questionnaire based on audio recordings.
